In Episode 008 of the Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast, I pulled together everything we had covered in the first seven episodes about online business models: affiliate marketing, information products, blogging, membership sites, and ecommerce. The goal was to show how these models combine into a single, practical approach for part-time entrepreneurs.
What We Covered
The first seven episodes introduced each business model individually. In this episode, I wanted to show you how they fit together. The reality is that most successful online businesses do not rely on a single revenue stream. They combine content creation, affiliate partnerships, and their own products into an integrated approach.
The model I recommended, and still recommend in 2026, is to start with a niche blog, monetize with affiliate offers while you build your audience, and then create your own information products once you understand exactly what your readers need. It is a proven path that thousands of part-time entrepreneurs have followed successfully.
Interview with Nicole Dean
This episode also featured an interview with Nicole Dean, who was one of the best examples I knew of someone successfully combining multiple online business models. Nicole ran niche content sites, created and sold PLR (Private Label Rights) content, and built membership communities. She was doing all of this while being genuinely helpful and building real relationships in the internet marketing space.
Nicole's approach was refreshingly practical. She focused on creating real value for her audience rather than chasing the latest marketing trend. Her advice about consistency and relationship-building still holds up today.
Key Takeaways
Start where you are. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. Pick a niche, start creating helpful content, and improve as you go. Waiting for the perfect plan is just another form of procrastination.
Combine models strategically. Affiliate marketing gives you revenue while you are building authority. Your own products give you the highest margins once you understand your audience. Blogging ties everything together by attracting traffic and building trust.
Relationships matter. The connections you build with other people in your niche, whether through conferences, online communities, or collaborations, will open doors that no amount of solo effort can. This was true when I attended my first internet marketing conference in 2010, and it remains true in 2026.
Take action consistently. The biggest differentiator between people who build successful online businesses and those who do not is consistent execution. Show up, do the work, and do not let the gap between where you are and where you want to be discourage you from taking the next step.
If you are just getting started with building an online business on the side, the approach we outlined in this episode is still one of the best ways to begin. The tools have changed, the platforms have evolved, but the fundamentals of matching helpful content with an audience that needs it have not changed at all.

Enjoyed it, Mark and Nicole! Thanks so much!
Thanks! Feel free to spread the word — more great interviews coming. Next week: a half-naked guy. Can you guess who?
At the risk of asking a truly stupid question, how does one listen to your podcast? There don’t seem to be any links or download buttons. I went to the RSS feed as well as iTunes and can’t seem to find any podcasts.
Looks like a wordpress update broke my download. It is fixed now, and you can find me on itunes (search for masonworld). Thanks!
