In January 2013, Mark Mason migrated his internet marketing blog from MasonWorld.com to LateNightIM.com. The rebrand aligned the domain name with the Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast, which had become the primary brand identity for Mark's content and community.
The migration redirected all existing MasonWorld.com content to the new domain. Mark noted at the time that he was chasing down 437 broken links as part of the transition, a common challenge with domain migrations.
Why the Rebrand Mattered
The move from a personal name domain to a brand domain reflected a strategic shift. MasonWorld.com was built around Mark's name, while LateNightIM.com centered the brand on the podcast and the audience it served: part-time entrepreneurs building internet businesses at night.
This is a decision many content creators face as their projects grow. A personal brand domain offers flexibility but limits the brand's identity. A project-specific domain creates clearer positioning but ties you to that particular venture. In Mark's case, the podcast had grown strong enough to justify building the entire web presence around it.
What's Changed Since This Post
Mark published this in January 2013. LateNightIM.com has remained the primary domain for over 13 years, confirming the rebrand was the right call. The Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast went on to produce well over 100 episodes and become a long-running resource for part-time internet entrepreneurs.

Awesome! This is so exciting!
Thanks. I am pretty pumped up. Appreciate your help with the site.
Peace,
Mark
Love your trailer! Going to listen to episode 43 now!
Great Christina. Glad you like the trailer. Let me know what you think about episode 43.
Hey Mark,
I just clicked over from the comment you made at Pat’s site about my guest post, and happened to see this post. I’m looking at doing the same thing to my site. 4 years ago I started my blog, having no idea how well it would do, and named it insuranceblogbychris.com. Yes, lame, right?
I’m just wondering if you’ve seen any slow down in traffic since doing the redirect and if you ran into any snags along the way. I see you are dealing with some broken links. I’m just apprehensive about screwing something up. That site is my livelihood.
Can you also refer me to your site designer? Your site is the perfect blend of function and beauty.
Hey Chris. Great to see you here.
First — thanks a ton for your comments about the site. The site design was done by my buddy Forest Parks. I will send you his info by email. He is awesome, and very affordable. I have been using him for years, and he is 100% trustworthy, responsive, etc. And he is a hell of a nice guy. I consider him a friend.
Traffic looks fine – and most of the broken links are not due to the move (some are). Most are due to blogging for 4 years without cleaning up. 🙂 I will make a note to look at it again in a few weeks and send you further comment on traffic changes.
If you can afford it, you could pay Yoast to help you make sure you get everything right. He is probably the worlds foremost expert on both WordPress SEO and Redirects. The boy is crazy smart.
I plan to have all the links cleaned up by the end of the month.
Hope that helps.
Will email you about Forest.
Thanks,
Mark
