After a lot of reflection, I realized my passion boiled down to three things: teaching people, internet marketing, and the idea of building an online business part-time while keeping a day job. That combination became the Late Night Internet Marketing brand — helping part-time entrepreneurs learn affiliate marketing, one night at a time.<\/p>\n
I structured the brand around three pillars: doing affiliate marketing in non-internet-marketing niches to stay current on what actually works, talking about affiliate marketing through the blog and podcast, and eventually teaching affiliate marketing through a comprehensive course for beginners.<\/p>\n
If you are spread across too many projects, take a hard look at which ones genuinely excite you and ditch the rest. Focus on the things you are passionate about and you will love the results. Passion is not just a feel-good concept. It is a competitive advantage because it gives you the energy to keep going when everyone else quits.<\/p>\n
Scott Tousignant built his entire online business around fitness, his lifelong passion. He ran Fat Loss Quickie, a membership site offering quick home-office workouts for busy entrepreneurs. Scott is one of those rare internet marketers who was not making money by teaching people to make money online. He was making money doing what he loved.<\/p>\n
1. Get a mentor.<\/strong> Scott spent his first 18 months buying every course and ebook he could find, trying to piece it all together on his own. The real breakthrough came when he invested in group mentoring. A good mentor provides a roadmap, keeps you accountable, and prevents you from wasting money on products that will not move your business forward. Even if you are only doing this part-time, a mentor is the ultimate shortcut because they help you make the most of your limited hours.<\/p>\n 2. Use video.<\/strong> Scott wrote newsletters and blog posts for the first year and a half of his business. The moment he started using video, everything exploded. Video builds trust instantly because your audience gets to see you, feel your energy, and know you are a real person. In the fitness space especially, where ghost-written ebooks from out-of-shape authors are common, video was a massive differentiator. Scott's unpolished videos — with his kids running in and out of frame — actually worked better than staged productions because they made the workouts feel achievable for busy parents.<\/p>\n 3. Learn to sell.<\/strong> Even with an entrepreneurial background, Scott struggled with online selling at first. The breakthrough came from studying the psychology of persuasion, particularly Robert Cialdini's book Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion<\/em>. Understanding buying psychology, emotional triggers, and calls to action transformed his copywriting and his conversions. The key insight: most customers want to be sold to. They want you to ask for the sale. You just need to learn how to do it in a genuine, non-pushy way.<\/p>\n Scott shared a telling story: early in his career, someone advised him to avoid the fitness niche because it was too competitive. He tried creating a product in a less competitive space instead. He wrote the ebook, built the sales page, listed it on ClickBank — and never promoted it once. He could not get excited about it. Meanwhile, his fitness content practically wrote itself because he had 10 to 20 ideas for new posts and videos every single day.<\/p>\n That is what passion does. It makes content creation effortless, marketing authentic, and persistence sustainable.
