Early in my blogging journey, I wrote a post comparing my blog to Garry Conn's and openly admitted he had me beat in every measurable way. That was not false modesty. When I met Garry, I had about 25 RSS subscribers, and my wife and I accounted for five of them. Garry was the person who helped me get my blog off the ground when I had no clue what I was doing. I am still working on the clue part, but the numbers improved considerably since those early days.<\/p>\n
At the time of this interview, Garry was approaching his 500th blog post. Five hundred pieces of original content. That kind of output is remarkable by any standard, but what made Garry truly exceptional was his ability to generate unique content and monetize it with Google AdSense. I have never seen anyone do it better. He was the undisputed content-to-AdSense master as far as I was concerned.<\/p>\n
Garry and I did not agree on everything, and I want to be clear about that. We had long debates about various topics, both online and over the phone. He had strong opinions and was not shy about sharing them. But when it came to the craft of creating content that earned money, I learned more from watching Garry work than from almost any course I ever purchased.<\/p>\n
The core lesson from Garry's approach is one that has only become more relevant over time: consistent, original content creation is the foundation of every successful online business. The platforms have changed. AdSense is no longer the goldmine it was in 2009. RSS readers gave way to email lists, which now compete with social media algorithms and AI-powered discovery tools. But the principle remains identical. Create useful content, publish it consistently, and the audience and revenue will follow.<\/p>\n
What I also learned from Garry was the value of mentorship and genuine relationships in the online business world. He did not have to take my phone call when I was a nobody with 25 subscribers. He chose to help because that is who he was. That generosity shaped how I approach my own interactions with newer entrepreneurs to this day.<\/p>\n
If you are just getting started building an online business, find your Garry Conn. Find someone further down the road who is willing to share what they have learned. And when you get further along yourself, be that person for someone else. That cycle of mentorship is one of the best things about this industry.<\/p>\n
